Surprisingly, in Lisbon it is more convenient and faster to use public transport to move around the city and sightseeing than renting a car. Parking in Lisbon is not easy, especially in the city center, and you have to pay for it. The city has a variety of transport cards that allow you to save money, but you can also purchase a ticket from the driver.

Lisbon transport hubs

Public transport in Lisbon is well developed. There are 6 transport hubs at which lots of lines intersects. All these points are located mainly in the city center.

Lisbon Getting to

The main gateway to the city is Lisbon Airport. Most people visiting a city from abroad come precisely through it. There are also rail and water station, but they are less popular.

Aeroporto de Lisboa

Around 6km north of the centre, the ultramodern Aeroporto de Lisboa operates direct flights to major international hubs

Metro

The airport is connected to central Lisbon by metro (a single costs €1.45). It is the terminus of the red line.

The AeroBus

The AeroBus (www.yellowbustours.com; one-way €3.60) departs from outside the arrivals hall roughly every 20 minutes from 7am to 11pm. It goes via Marquês de Pombal, Avenida da Liberdade, Restauradores, Rossio and Praça do Comércio to Cais do Sodré (25 to 35 minutes). The ticket gives free passage on the city bus network for the rest of the day.
